Yahoo Messenger is Reportedly Shutting Down

RadioOnFire.com - According to reports, Yahoo Messenger is shutting down. Verizon’s Oath made the announcement to the public. It was noted that the company is reportedly looking for a product that can step into the ring with apps like WhatsApp, WeChat, Snapchat, and more.

Via a press release, Oath said: “We know we have many loyal fans who have used Yahoo Messenger since its beginning as one of the first chat apps of its kind.” They continued: “As the communications landscape continues to change over, we’re focusing on building and introducing new, exciting communications tools that better fit consumer needs.”

In place of Messenger, Yahoo is pushing users towards a new group messaging app called Yahoo Squirrel. Reports noted the app like Slack for family and friends.
