Mayor Pugh wants a National Search but our Next Commissioner Should be a Baltimorean!

RadioOnFire.com - While Mayor Catherine Pugh claims no prior knowledge of Darryl De Sousa's tax problems, another bad hire could prove even more embarrassing for the city. Pugh said Wednesday she wants to make sure the next commissioner, who will be hired through a 'national search,' is carefully vetted in the process to avoid such surprises. Pugh was asked if the failure to see the tax return issue coming was a self-inflicted wound.

"I don't have a great answer for that," she said. "I own the selection as Darryl De Sousa as commissioner for Baltimore City." - Mayor Catherine Pugh

The idea of a "national search" draws too many similarities to a talent competition; which is troubling. Baltimore is unique. The crime challenges facing law enforcement require someone homegrown at the helm. Whoever heads the eighth largest municipal police department in the nation needs to know what they are facing. Baltimore can not afford to have someone 'learning on the job' (ie Commissioner Anthony Batts).

Baltimore's next police commissioner needs to be a BALTIMOREAN!
