NFL Fines Former Carolina Panthers Owner $2.75M for Racial Misconduct

RadioOnFire.com - Former Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson was reportedly fined $2.75 million by the NFL after they conducted an investigation into claims of racial and sexual misconduct in the workplace.

The investigation was conducted by former U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White, and it was noted the misconduct was only limited to Richardson. Along with that, the Panthers ownership failed to inform the proper channels of the allegations or come forward with any type of resolution for the issues.

This comes after Richardson sold the Panthers this past December after a Sports Illustrated report surfaced saying he made sexually suggestive comments to multiple women and also fired off a racial slur at an African-American scout for the Panthers.

The NFL noted the money from the fine will be placed towards organizations that tackle gender and racial issues in and out of the workplace.

RadioOnFire.com - Vanity Fair recently released the cover story for their August 2018 issue, which features Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick spoke on many different topics like success, taking music seriously, moving to Compton, and the use of the N-Word.

Kendrick broke down his thoughts, saying “Let me put it to you in its simplest form. I’ve been on this earth for 30 years, and there’s been so many things a Caucasian person said I couldn’t do. Get good credit. Buy a house in an urban city. So many things—’you can’t do that’—whether it’s from afar or close up. So if I say this is my word, let me have this one word, please let me have that word.”

LeBron James Opts Out of Cavaliers Contract, Becomes Free Agent

RadioOnFire.com - LeBron James reportedly plans to decline his $35.6 million player option for the 2018-19 season.

Cleveland.com's Joe Vardon first relayed word of James' decision, which will allow him to become an unrestricted free agent.

The move doesn't necessarily mean James will leave the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer, but it officially opens the door for him to explore other possibilities. And while it's unclear which teams the 33-year-old will sit down with, buzz throughout the regular season suggested his list of prospective suitors isn't particularly long.

In March, The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor reported that the Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers would be the only teams on his radar.

Dame Dash Calls XXXTentacion the Tupac or Biggie of this Generation

RadioOnFire.com - Many have commented on the death of XXXTentacion and the impact it will have moving forward. Now, Dame Dash has given his take on the Florida rapper, saying he will be the Tupac or Biggie of this generation.

Via an interview with AllHipHop, Dash was asked about the rapper’s death and said “You know the sad thing about it is, the last couple days, I was like, ‘Yo, hip-hop is going through that phase.’ In my generation, it got kind of violent. Then Biggie and Pac died and it kind of calmed down. And then I remember Wiz’s generation, I liked it because it was like other parts of the country were working together, like Curren$y and Smoke DZA.”

Dash went on to say “It’s just funny how things go in cycles, and you could just feel it. Actually, I got it on tape. I was like, 'Yo it don’t feel right. It’s going to take somebody to get killed, for everybody to cool out.' And it’s sad that it was him. But [X is] definitely going to be looked at from this 15 to 25-year-old generation as Tupac and Biggie.”

Big Sean Reveals Depression and Anxiety Led to Him Cancelling Tour

RadioOnFire.com - Big Sean decided to cancel his Unfriendly Reminder Tour earlier this year, which he opened up about in an interview with Billboard.

The Detroit native explained that his struggles with depression and anxiety were behind his decision to first postpone and then cancel the tour. Sean stated that he "had some things to work out in my head...I never really took the time out to nurture myself, to take care of myself. It took me a lot of depression having a lot of anxiety to realize something was off. I've been getting myself together, getting my mind right. So I have been taking better care of myself and...not only am I bringing my best self to the music but I'm bringing my best self to the table, to my city, to my fans, to the people who are about me."

During the conversation, Big Sean also addressed the senseless murder of XXXTentacion, stating, "I don't feel anybody deserves to die young, especially if it's a senseless act of violence. Nobody's deserving of that. I feel like he was a raw, talented artist and I feel that we only saw a glimpse of it. He has real fans and real people that love him, so I'm sure he's gonna live on forever."

Johnny Depp's $650M Film Fortune Reportedly 'Almost All Gone'

RadioOnFire.com - Rolling Stone's recent cover story of Johnny Depp gave an eye-opening look into the eccentric actor's life. In it, Depp speaks openly about drugs and alcohol, and he also addresses his financial troubles, which he blames on his former managers.

Depp addressed his former managers claiming that he has a $30,000 a month wine expense, which he refuted. The famed actor stated, "It's insulting to say that I spent $30,000 on wine. Because it was far more." He also claimed that he spent $5 million dollars to shoot the ashes of famed writer Hunter S. Thompson, who he portrayed in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, out of a cannon.

While parts of his finances were laid bare, Depp says he's nearly broke due to his former manager's mishandling of the $650 million he's made throughout his successful career. Depp is currently suing them for breach of fiduciary duty and fraud. He is seeking more than $25 million plus additional damages.

Trump Releases Plan To Merge Departments Of Education, Labor

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration proposed a major reorganization of the federal government on Thursday, calling for merging the education and labor departments, moving the federal food stamp program to the Department of Health and Human Services and renaming that agency. The plan represented the latest aspiration of a presidential administration to revamp a sprawling federal government.

Mick Mulvaney, director of the Office of Management and Budget, told The Associated Press in an interview that the effort is part of President Donald Trump’s “drain the swamp’ agenda” and was aimed at streamlining a long list of overlapping regulations and department functions.

The sweeping reorganization proposal, which was formally unveiled during the president’s Cabinet meeting Thursday, is the result of an order signed by Trump in March 2017 calling for a review of the federal government aimed at identifying redundancies and streamlining agencies. It’s the latest in a long line of federal government overhaul proposals announced by administrations from both parties.

Mulvaney pointed to the fact that there are currently more than 40 job training programs spread across 16 different Cabinet agencies — just one of a list of examples he cited.

“If it’s cheese pizza, it’s FDA, but you put pepperoni on it and it becomes a USDA product. I mean, come on?” he said. “An open-faced roast beef sandwich is USDA, a closed-faced roast beef sandwich is FDA. Not making this up. You can’t make this kind of stuff up. This would only happen in the government.”

Among the specific proposals outlined is a plan to merge the departments of education and labor into a single Department of Education and the Workforce, or DEW. The combined agency would oversee programs for students and workers, ranging from education and developing skills to workplace protections and retirement security.

The plan would also create a single food safety agency under the Agriculture Department and move the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP, from the USDA to Health and Human Services, which would be renamed the Department of Health and Public Welfare and be refocused more broadly on public assistance programs.

Housing programs run by the USDA would also move to the Department of Housing and Urban Development and certain functions of the Army Corps of Engineers would be moved to the departments of transportation and interior.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s policy function would be moved into the Executive Office of the President, while background checks would move over to the Department of Defense.

Mulvaney said the plan was “not designed as a cost-saving” or as “a way to reduce the size of government” but said: “If efficiency drives you there, there’s nothing wrong with that.”

Soon after he took office, Trump charged the Office of Management and Budget with coming up with a plan to reorganize the government and eliminate unnecessary agencies, pointing to redundancy and billions of dollars being wasted

“We will develop a detailed plan to make the federal government work better, reorganizing, consolidating and eliminating where necessary,” Trump said last year after signing an executive order on the reorganization. “In other words, making the federal government more efficient and very, very cost productive.”

But whether the proposal will prove effective is unclear.

Many of the changes would require approval from Congress and congressional leaders have been hesitant to adopt a plan that would eliminate federal agencies they are charged with overseeing.

Even before the plan was announced, it was met with skepticism among lawmakers and labor unions. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., said members of both parties in Congress had pushed back against Trump’s proposals “to drastically gut investments in education, health care and workers — and he should expect the same result for this latest attempt to make government work worse for the people it serves.”

Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, a union representing 1.7 million teachers and education professionals, said under normal circumstances combining the education and labor departments might make sense as a way of bringing together education and workforce development programs.

“But there is nothing normal about this administration, so we’re extremely skeptical of the motivations here, given how hostile (Education Secretary) Betsy DeVos and President Trump have been to public education, workers and unions,” Weingarten said.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., the chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which helps oversee the two departments that would be merged under the plan, said he was open to the changes. “I think it’s always wise to look for greater efficiency in how our government operates and will study the proposal carefully,” Alexander said.

Eliminating the Education Department has long been a goal of Republicans. President Ronald Reagan, for example, sought to eliminate the department during the 1980s but backed down amid a lack of support in Congress.

And former Vice President Al Gore famously appeared on David Letterman’s late-night show and held up an ash tray to demonstrate overlapping government functions.

“People are used to thinking nothing can change, but the American people are really upset with the way it operates now, it doesn’t work, it’s extremely wasteful,” Gore said then. “There’s bipartisan support for getting rid of all these wasteful procedures, cutting the wasteful spending and putting in a new approach that will make it work better and cost less.”

OMB’s deputy director for management, Margaret Weichert, said the effort was focused on cases where agencies “are overlapping in responsibility, have fragmented responsibilities, where the customer service element is dispersed across agencies.”

She cited the issue of endangered fish species like salmon, which she said is under the purview of different departments depending on where they’re swimming, and poultry farmers dealing with different regulations for chickens and eggs.

“We’re not at the beginning of the 21st century, we’re 20 years in. But we don’t have a government that meets the needs of the 21st century,” he said.

Some Immigrant Children Being Held In Maryland

RadioOnFire.com - Dozens of children have been sent to Maryland since the Trump administration announced the separation of families at the border, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Some have reportedly been placed with foster families in Anne Arundel County and others are being held in dormitories in Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties. Most of the children are from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.

Bowing to pressure from anxious allies, President Donald Trump abruptly reversed himself Wednesday and signed an executive order halting his administration’s policy of separating children from their parents when they are detained illegally crossing the U.S. border.

Some are below the age of seven and lawyers are attempting to put in asylum claims for the kids.

“We’re going to have strong, very strong borders, but we’re going to keep the families together,” said Trump who added that he didn’t like the “sight” or “feeling” of children separated from their parents.

Maryland is supposedly one of several states receiving children from the border because it has the capacity. At least three parents of the children are believed to be held in Maryland as well. About 2,300 children are believed to be separated from their families. Bethany Christian Services is caring for children who began to arrive in Maryland last month.

U.S. Representative for Maryland's 2nd congressional district Dutch Ruppersberger says it is not clear how children will be reunited with their families.

Intel CEO Resigns, Had Past Relationship with Employee

RadioOnFire.com - Intel CEO Brian Krzanich has resigned. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company determined he violated a particular policy by having a past relationship with an employee. An investigation uncovered the violation of Intel’s non-fraternization policy that applies to all managers.

Intel's longstanding policy prohibits managers from having romantic (and or sexual) relationships with employees (who report directly or indirectly to them). Moreover, it applies to all managers regardless of seniority level.

The policy also requires employees who witness the following behavior to report it, if applicable. Krzanich has been with the company since the 1980s and was appointed CEO in 2013. CFO Robert Swan will temporarily fill in following Krzanich's resignation.

Krzanich's previous relationship with the employee was consensual.
