RadioOnFire.com - That was quick.
The nation is still recovering from the recent school shooting at Parkland, Fla., high school on February 14, and with the rising number of school shootings, gun control conversations have risen to the forefront again. One state that wanted to take on the issue, but quickly found it to be more difficult than expected, is Florida.
Lawmakers in Florida met Saturday and held a session to discuss banning the use of AR-15’s. A “voice vote” was held resulting in a ban of the rifles in the state. Success? No, the ban was overturned 15 minutes after it was approved.
Initially, the vote was approved by lawmakers being given a choice to shout, yea or nay. In a moment of ‘actions speak louder than words,’ the Tampa Bay Times reports that the vote was quickly reversed when a more formal roll call vote was put into place resulting in a 21-17 vote for the continued right to possess the rifles.
The nation is torn on the issue of gun control with two out of three adults wanting some form of better control laws put in place according to a report conducted by CBS. Those opposing the change of gun laws are made up of 54% Republican.
Gun law conversations have made their way to the White House with Trump weighing in on the issue. He recently tweeted a call for change that would still preserve the rights of gun owners.
Trump tweeted, “Background Checks a big part of conversation. Gun free zones are proven targets of killers. After many years, a Bill should emerge. Respect 2nd Amendment!”
Trump commented on the Parkland massacre saying that he, “would’ve ran in the school, even without a weapon.”
