RadioOnFire.com - Lil Kim was granted a distinction that recognized her contributions to black music and to the city that she was born in, raised in, and helped to define, on Monday, June 11.
Council members Andy King, Ydanis Rodriguez, Jumaane Williams, Daneek Miller, Carlina Rivera, Alicka Ampry-Samuel, and Donovan Richards were all on hand to celebrate the Brooklyn legend as a worthy recipient of a proclamation from the City of New York. She was selected to be honored along with a group of influencers that ranged from former athletes like John Starks to such peers in the industry as Fat Joe.
The Council’s Black, Latino & Asian Caucus brought the gathering together in honor of African-American Music Appreciation Month. Along with the proclamation, the New York City 12th Council District Arts and Music Award and the city's Power Of Influence Award were distributed to honorees.
A video snippet that has been circulating throughout social media shows the moment that Styles P and fellow Brooklynite, Maino, stand alongside Kim on the steps of City Hall to speak a couple of words on her behalf - before handing the mic over to the O.G. rap queen.
"I just want to say this: Use us. Use us in the industry. We have a voice and we want to represent our town, our city," Kim said upon receiving the proclamation plaque.
