Apple to Add Feature That Prevents Police from Unlocking iPhone or iPad

RadioOnFire.com - Apple is introducing a new feature that will deter law enforcement from using third-party hacking tools to extract data from a person's iPhone or iPad. In a statement made on Wednesday, Apple explained:

"We're constantly strengthening the security protections in every Apple product to help customers defend against hackers, identity thieves and intrusions into their personal data," [...] We have the greatest respect for law enforcement, and we don't design our security improvements to frustrate their efforts to do their jobs."

The latest update could reignite longstanding tensions between the tech behemoth and law enforcement who wants Apple to provide backdoor channels to operate around encryption and other security obstacles. As it stands, the new update will make it increasingly more difficult for law enforcement to gain access to information on a person's iPhone or iPad without the consent of the person or Apple.

The update is slated to be available on the new iOS 12 coming out later this year and operating on devices as old as the iPhone 5S. In the era of mass surveillance, however, it is only a matter of time until a new loophole is discovered.
