RadioOnFire.com - VanDyke Perry and Gregory Counts were 19 and 21-years-old when they were arrested and accused of kidnapping and raping a woman in New York in 1991. The two men were convicted of the crimes, despite no physical evidence, and Counts spent 26 years in jail and Perry 11 years based solely on the victim's testimony.
Counts reached out the Innocence Project, who took a close look at the case, which upon further investigation showed that DNA in the woman's underwear belonged to a man who died in 2011. This April, the victim admitted that she lied about the rape, and it was revealed that she made the story up because her boyfriend, who was dealing drugs with the two men, pressured her.
Counts responded to the situation, telling the Innocence Project, "I didn't want to waste one more minute being angry when I could spend that minute being happy."
The victim will not face charges since the statute of limitations has expired.
