RadioOnFire.com - Celebrity Allison Mack has been brought up on federal charges for sex trafficking crimes that involved her recruitment of women to join a cult led by NXIVM leader Keith Raniere.
The "Smallville" actress was indicted in New York on Friday, April 20. She was also charged with conspiracy to commit forced labor. According to court documents, Mack is accused of bringing women into the cult with promises that they'd be part of a mentorship group. Ultimately, they wound up slaving through manual labor and coercive sex practices.
Raniere has built a reputation for drawing women in the U.S., Canada, and South America to join his group under the premise that they'd be gaining the help of self-help programs. Over the years Mack got more and more involved in Raniere's inner circle, earning the title of "master" and leading to her eventual perpetuation of criminal practices under his guidance.
"Mack and other ... masters recruited ... slaves by telling them that they were joining a women-only organization that would empower them and eradicate purported weaknesses the NXIVM curriculum taught were common in women," the prosecutor is reported as stating.
Mack pled not guilty and was remanded to custody until her bail hearing on Monday.
