RadioOnFire.com - Kehlani Parrish drew a wave of support, but also received some pushback from both allies and opponents, after publishing a tweet in which she declared herself to be "not bi, not straight," but queer, over the weekend.
Kehlani's Twitter page all but transformed into a forum on gender and sexual fluidity, which ultimately wound up pulling the SweetSexySavage crooner into various exchanges on the topic. The discourse popped off after she ventured to address inquiry from fans who she says continue to ask how she identifies. "I’m attracted to women, men, REALLY attracted to queer men, non binary people, intersex people, trans people," she tweeted in response.
She, for the most part, refrained from engaging interrogation from straight men, calling it a "waste of precious energy," after suggesting that they were pretty much "the only people tweakin and offended" by the discussion. But, she did wind up building with a couple of critics within the LGBTQ community who took exception with her reclaiming 'the q word.' There was also some discrepancy in terms of how she represented the issue, which prompted her to remove the tweet.
"I retracted my queer tweet because i am being corrected about the way in which i listed the gender spectrum and i’m super super sensitive to being offensive especially when i’m only trying to appreciate. point is, i love love, and that love lies in every gender there is," she explained.
