Davis Asks FBI To Take Over Investigation Into Detective's Slaying

RadioOnFire.com - Baltimore police Commissioner Kevin Davis is asking the FBI to take over the investigation into the death of Detective Sean Suiter.

Opening a media briefing on Friday, Davis read a letter he is sending to FBI Director Christopher Wray. The letter praised the work of federal agencies and Acting U.S. Attorney Stephen Schenning in assisting on the case.

"I am growing increasingly uncomfortable that my homicide detectives do not know all of the facts known to the FBI or to USAO that could, if revealed to us, assist in furthering this murder investigation," Davis wrote.
FBI officials say they are aware of the request, but aren't yet able to comment.
More than two weeks after the fatal shooting, police have yet to develop a suspect.
There is a reward of $215,000 being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Tips may be called into city police at 410-396-2100, the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
The request was made the day after the revelation that former Sgt. Wayne Jenkins, in 2010, allegedly duped Suiter into picking up planted drug evidence after a pursued vehicle crashed into another vehicle and killed an elderly man. Two men ended up pleading guilty to charges that federal prosecutors are now seeking to wipe from their record.

"We have two people in federal prison for years on end for some trumped-up charges and that to me is the ultimate violation of this profession," Davis said.
Suiter was killed after approaching a suspicious person while canvassing in relation to a 2016 triple shooting in Harlem Park. Suiter engaged in a struggle with this man, only known as a black male wearing a jacket. Suiter was shot in the head at close range with his own gun. Davis said there is no DNA or fingerprint evidence that another person was involved, but that that isn't conclusive on its own.
