RadioOnFire.com - A man has died following a two-alarm house fire early Monday morning in Anne Arundel County.
Fire crews were called to fire just after 4 a.m. at a home in 5200 block of Brookwood Road in Brooklyn Park.
A resident was found on the second floor of the home and despite paramedics' attempts to resuscitate him, he was declared dead.
"They brought him outside," Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Russ Davies said. "Paramedics made efforts to revive him, unfortunately, they were unable to do so and declared the patient deceased at the scene."
An Anne Arundel County firefighter was briefly trapped in debris when he fell through the second floor to the first floor while searching the home. He was rescued and taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The fire was placed under control in about 20 minutes.
There was damage to two occupied homes and an adjacent unoccupied home that was under renovation, officials said.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
Neighbor Michele Smith described the scene as a frightening situation.
"As soon as I woke up I seen a bunch of lights," she said. "It was bunch of fire trucks."
Neighbors said a woman and two young girls also lived in the house, but fire officials said the victim was the only one that was home at the time of the fire. Flames also damaged an unoccupied home.
Neighbor Antwin Shaw said his house and the on next door have smoke damage.
"In fact I had to rush my ferret out and ask the firemen to give him some oxygen because he wasn't acting right," said Smith, who added firefighters did help his pet.
