Michael Bloomberg In Annapolis Discusses Gun Control, Arming Security At Hopkins

RadioOnFire.com - Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg visited Annapolis to discuss gun control issues with lawmakers.

Bloomberg met Tuesday afternoon with Democratic leaders, including House Speaker Michael Busch and state Attorney General Brian Frosh.

Bloomberg is at a crossroads: Can he do more for the country as president or as a private citizen? He said he's taking a look at running for president. Bloomberg provided a timetable for an announcement between now and the end of next month.

"It's the president that sets the standard for how we deport ourselves, how we focus, how we address the issues that the public really needs, and it's impossible to understate the influence the president has," Bloomberg said.

Bloomberg met with Democrats who have been instrumental in pushing gun control legislation.

"(I'm) here to say, No. 1, thank you to Maryland for being very active in passing some gun laws that made some sense," Bloomberg said.

Bloomberg said he appreciates legislative efforts this year that would require background checks to buy a rifle and ban 3D-printing of firearms.

The Johns Hopkins University alum supports expanding and arming security at Hopkins' campuses.

"I think that trained police officers who are well-managed and well supervised is the right thing to do," Bloomberg said.

Frosh believes Bloomberg has the right message for America.

"I think people across the country want a message of gun moderation, and that's what Mr. Bloomberg speaks to," Frosh said.

Bloomberg called the federal partial government shutdown "crazy."

"That's a disgrace. It is dangerous. It makes us the laughing stock of the world," Bloomberg said.
