Police responded at 5:06 p.m. for a 911 call from the 7500 block of Newmanstown Drive. They found a man suffering from apparent trauma. Medical personnel arrived but pronounced him dead at the scene.
The victim has since been identified as Steven Bernard Wilson, 33, of the 500 block of Captain John Brice in Annapolis. He was working out of the model home.
Police arrested 18-year-old Dillon Augustyniak of Jessup, who faces charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery. A mugshot wouldn't immediately be made available, police said. Augustyniak remains held without bond after a Monday bail review hearing.
Chief Timothy Altomare said at a press conference that robbery was the motive. Police said there is evidence that the act was premeditated. Officials said a laptop and cell phone were stolen.
"i think impulse met opportunity in this instance," Altomare said.
Police say the suspect shot Wilson and fled. He was found in Baltimore City.
Police conducted several searches of the model home and surrounding areas, and canvassed the neighborhood, finding additional evidence overnight. Evidence at the scene led police to believe his death was a homicide.
In charging documents, police say the 911 call came from a cell phone, with the only sound of a person who was breathing heavily and sounded like they were in distress. The operator attempted to ask questions, but only heard a voice in the background asking, "Where is the money?" and "Who are you talking to?" The call was then disconnected.
Police found surveillance video they say shows Augustyniak armed with a long gun. Police say he gave Wilson's stolen cell phone to another individual, and also tried to sell a firearm of the same caliber as the murder weapon.
Police executed a search and seizure warrant on Augustyniak's home and recovered a gun consistent with the one they believe used to kill Wilson.
