Amazon Files Patent Showing They Want to Make 'Suspicious' People Database

RadioOnFire.com - According to a post written by the ACLU, Amazon has reportedly filed a patent that uses facial recognition software to create a database of “suspicious” people. The software would be used with the doorbell camera company Ring, which Amazon acquired for $1.2 billion.

On the patent application, Amazon says the software is a “powerful deterrent against would-be burglars.” However, the ACLU is saying the tech is similar to “authoritarian surveillance that advocates, activists, community leaders, politicians, and experts have repeatedly warned against."

Jake Snow, an attorney for the ACLU, commented on the software, saying “An algorithm shouldn’t be deciding whether someone is suspicious. We’re calling on Amazon to be more thoughtful of the consequences of their technology being deployed in communities and to put people before profit."
