Officer Who Killed Alton Sterling Fired, Bodycam Footage Released (Graphic)

RadioOnFire.com - The officers responsible for shooting Alton Sterling dead outside of a Baton Rouge gas station convenience store almost two years ago may have eluded prison time, but they weren't pardoned from the consequences that resulted from an investigation conducted by the city's police department.

On Friday, March 30, some of the BRPD's top officials convened at a press conference where it was announced that officer Howie Lake has been suspended for three days without pay for losing his temper during his exchange with Sterling, and that his partner on the night of July 5, 2016, Blane Salamoni, has been fired. Upon reviewing evidence available in the case, it was determined that Salamoni had violated use-of-force polices by his approach to questioning Sterling after receiving a call from a homeless man who informed police that the victim had exposed a firearm to him.

Along with Friday's announcement, four videos were released that show the incident from four different angles. Millions have already witnessed the struggle and fatal shot that followed, but up until this point, only cell phone footage was available. For better or for worse, the public now has access to a recording taken via dash cam, a video that shows the incident unfold from the scope of the establishment's surveillance camera, and recordings taken from the body cameras worn by both Salamoni and Lake.
