RadioOnFire.com - Dallas police arrested a man who trespassed into a station parking lot and vandalized a dozen squad cars with a sledgehammer over the weekend.
Officers of the department's Central Division were informed of the intruder's presence in the Dallas City Marshal's office lot at around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, February 4. The witness who provided the tip had observed Gregory Simpson as he went about smashing windshields and windows. By the time the authorities arrived at the South Hall Street location Simpson had caused destruction to four Dallas police cruisers and eight Dallas marshal cars.
Simpson, who isn't believed to have had much trouble sneaking onto the premises through a gate, was commanded to drop the hammer and he complied. It is estimated that he caused $4,900 worth of damage to DPD property. No motive has been established for why the 58-year-old committed the crime.
Through its page on Twitter the Dallas Police Association released a statement urging the city to fund greater security before much greater tragedy strikes. "Around 5 am this morning a suspect entered our central substation parking lot that’s STILL unsecured smashing 12 cars in total! What’s it going to take folks, Officer getting killed ? These parking lots need to be secure !!!!!" the tweet read.
