Security Guard Fatally Shot St West Baltimore Apartment Complex

RadioOnFire.com - Baltimore police are looking for leads in an overnight shooting that left a security guard dead.
The 29-year-old man was killed while on duty at the Pedestal Gardens Apartments in west Baltimore's Madison Park neighborhood.
Mattie Mortimer, who works security for both a private company and the federal government, lives in Madison Park and said she saw and talked to the guard who was killed many times.
"Why would anybody want to kill him?" Mortimer said. "He was a nice person. He was a real nice person. I never saw him do nothing to anyone around here. He was just keeping everyone safe. He put his life on the line for everyone else, and they going to just kill him like that? For what?"

Police said it's unclear what led to the shooting. Investigators said a security guard flagged down a police officer around 11 p.m. Friday, requesting help. The guard who had been shot was outside the rear of a building in the 1500 block of Eutaw Place, not far from McMechen Street. He died at the scene.
The victim was one of several guards providing security for the Pedestal Gardens Apartments. He worked for Soldier Security and had been on the job less than 30 days.
"And just that little time, his life is gone," Mortimer said.
Some apartment occupants and residents living in the neighborhood would not talk about what happened. Others said they are saddened, but not surprised. Still others who asked not to be identified described how having security has helped the neighborhood.
"Security, I honestly feel safe coming home. I get off at 11 at night, and I see security outside the gate and I feel comfortable," a resident said.

WBAL-TV 11 News contacted Soldier Security and the apartment complex, but neither have returned requests for comment.
