RadioOnFire.com - Cam Newton killed the buzz that has been passed around by those who say his game has declined, with a dominant performance against the New England Patriots on Sunday, October 1. Cam's final score of the game put his Panthers up by a score of 30-16 while holding special significance in it having been his 50th career rushing touchdown. Of course, the ever jovial superstar would go on to celebrate after making history, but not by setting into his famed dabbing pose. Instead, the former league MVP chose to share the accomplishment with his African-American people. He got up, created some separation between him and his teammates, then put his head down and raised his fist.
“I did it to show black pride because I am an African-American,” Cam said, before verbalizing that the pose had as much to do with him basking in the exhilaration of the moment, as it did him delivering a message. But the message was none-the-less there, said Cam. “We cannot forget the fact that sports as a whole bring people together ... A lot of people from different shapes, colors, creeds, ethnicities, and cultures come together.” He'd add. “At that moment, they’re rooting for the same thing. We try to unify people with that, and that’s all it is. Unity is something that’s gonna cure a battered mentality in this country.”
To cap their Week 4 matchup against the defending Super Bowl champs off, Carolina edged out a win. Cam played no small hand in helping the effort, with a stat line that denotes 22 receptions of 29 passing attempts for 316 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air to go along with 44 rushing yards and a TD on the ground. Through the 7 years, Cam has been in the league; only Marshawn Lynch has more rushing touchdowns.
