Pence Claims Comey Firing Had Nothing to Do with Russia Investigation

RadioOnFire.com - Politicians and pundits on the both the left and the right were stunned Tuesday after news broke that President Trump had fired FBI Director James Comey. In fact, Comey himself reportedly learned he had been sacked after seeing the announcement on the news, believing it at first to be a practical joke.

The firing of Comey, who was one of the leading figures in the investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, has naturally raised a lot of red flags on both sides of the aisle.

While the White House claims that Comey was let go because of "loss of confidence" in his abilities to lead the Bureau, it's very hard not to be suspicious of the timing; just days ago, Comey had reportedly asked for more resources in the Russia inquiry.

The administration, however, is sticking to its story, and on Wednesday Vice President Mike Pence weighed in on Comey's termination.

"The President's decision...to remove Director Comey, as the head of the FBI, was based solely and exclusively, on his commitment to the best interest of the American people," Pence told reporters.

Saying "it was time for a fresh start," Pence called the firing the "right decision at the right time."
