RadioOnFire.com - A mix of seven bondsmen and bounty hunters were indicted on a multitude of charges ranging from aggravated assault to first-degree felony murder, in connection with the killing of one man and wounding of another they believed they had identified, before realizing that they had the wrong men.
Jalen Johnson, of Clarksville, TN, had been driving off to exit a Walmart parking lot, when his car was blocked by another vehicle. Fearing that he had come head to head with a group of gang members with bad intentions, Johnson attempted to flee, and was successful in getting on the road, but would be pursued by the vehicle, which actually comprised of William L. Byles, 31; Kenneth Chiasson, 38; Antwon D. Keesee, 32; Jonathan Schnepp, 31; Roger D. West, 31; Prentice L. Williams, 34 and Joshua Young, 27; all men who apprehend criminals for a living.
Baring the intention to make a collar, the agents would open fire on Johnson's Sedan after giving chase for seven miles. Two of the men in the car were hit, including Johnson, who was pronounced dead. When the smoke cleared, the bondsmen/bounty hunter group discovered that they actually weren't the men they had been seeking. In fact, nobody in Johnson's car had a warrant on them, and none were found to be armed.
A Montgomery County grand jury would charge the seven men with first-degree felony murder, attempted second-degree murder, especially aggravated kidnapping, attempted especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, and felony reckless endangerment.
