Miami is No Longer a "Sanctuary" for Illegal Immigrants

RadioOnFire.com - This past Wednesday [Jan. 25], President Donald Trump issued an executive order stopping the funding for cities that serve as alleged "sanctuaries" for illegal immigrants. Because of that, Miami Mayor Carlos Gimenez reversed Dade County's status as a "sanctuary." In turn, that decision forced the county jail to acknowledge and respect federal immigration detention requests. This comes as a shock to many after the county previously refused to indefinitely hold illegal inmates who were wanted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The reasoning behind the decision for the Mayor came down to holding illegal inmates or losing millions of dollars in federal funding. Gimenez said, "I want to make sure we don't put in jeopardy the millions of funds we get from the government for a $52,000 issue." The millions in federal funding that could potentially be placed in jeopardy goes towards homeless shelters, elderly care, and many other things. Since then, Trump has taken to Twitter to address the Miami situation, saying "Miami-Dade Mayor drops sanctuary policy. Right decision. Strong!"
