Mother, Son Dead After One-Car Crash; Daughter Critically Injured

RadioOnFire.com - A mother and her 9-year-old son were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Woodlawn Thursday night, Baltimore County police said. The woman's 5-year-old daughter was critically injured.

Police say Tanja Tanesha Shields, 28, of the 5500 block of Wesley Avenue in west Baltimore was driving her 2017 Nissan Altima headed west on Gwynn Oak Avenue, approaching Park Drive around 11:05 p.m. when she lost control of her car. It went over a raised median and across the eastbound lanes, where it struck a tree and caught fire. Witnesses were able to extract all three occupants, police said.

Shields and her son, Khalil M. Wyche, were pronounced dead at area hospitals. Her daughter remains in critical condition.

Police say none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts, and none of the children were in car seats. Police continue to investigate other factors that led to the crash.
