RadioOnFire.com - Interim Baltimore County schools Superintendent Verletta White said she's disappointed that her appointment to become the next permanent superintendent has been put on hold.
White spoke exclusively Thursday morning with 11 News education reporter Tim Tooten. In a school system where she was a student and principal, White told 11 News that she wants the job permanently.
"My reaction, of course, is disappointment, not just for me, but also for Baltimore County Public Schools," White said.
White still has almost two months left on her one-year interim contract to lead the school system. She said this most recent setback will not stop her from doing her job. It comes as she has received more support from local and state lawmakers.
"The term 'interim' brings with it some challenges in terms of recruitment of personnel, retention. It brings a level of uncertainty in the district," White said. "So my focus is on (becoming) the permanent superintendent."
It's a position she thought she had all but secured until Wednesday, when state school Superintendent Karen Salmon urged the Baltimore County Board of Education to hold up her selection.
"Certainly, I'm not in the position to be able to judge Dr. Salmon or her decision. I respect her opinion, and I respect her position. My position is to just be focused on our children each and every day," White said.

White said she will not allow the apparent setback to affect the job she has already been called to do.
