RadioOnFire.com - When a professional sports team wins the championship, they are invited to go meet the president on Capitol Hill. Last year, the Golden State Warriors made front page news when they declined to visit Trump after winning the NBA championship. Trump responded by uninviting them to the event they already claimed they weren't attending, making himself look vain in the process.
The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl just a few months ago, and so they have earned themselves a ticket to the White House. It was the Eagles franchise's first championship, and they got revenge on the New England Patriots who beat them last time they made it to the Super Bowl.
Philly's Safety Malcolm Jenkins has already come out to state that he will not be visiting the White House. According to NJ.com, based on a poll regarding the White House trip, 63% of Eagles fans are in favor of the team showing up to the June 5th Capitol Hill appearance.
The team doesn't seem to share the same excitement though. According to Jenkins, his teammates are still deciding whether or not to take the invitation.
Speaking with NJ.com, Jenkins stated, "I don't want to take away from anybody's experience or make it a big distraction. It is a celebratory event. I want the guys who chose to go to enjoy that. There are a lot of veterans who attend that, that are fans of ours, that want to enjoy it. Me personally, because it is not a meeting or a sit down or anything like that, I'm just not interested in the photo op.
So I am choosing not to go for the photo op. Over the last two years I have been meeting with legislators, both republican and democrat. Don't matter -- if you wanna meet to talk about advancing our communities, changing our countries, I am all for that. This isn't one of those meetings. So I'll opt out of the photo opportunity."
