Meek Mill Opens Up About His Case on 'CBS This Morning'

RadioOnFire.com - Meek Mill followed up on the much-anticipated recording of his interview with NBC Dateline, over the weekend, by sitting down with CBS This Morning on Tuesday, May 8, for the first live television news show appearance he's done since his release from prison the week before last.

With the help of attorney, Joe Tacopina, Meek broke down the ins and outs of his gripe against the 2-4 year sentence he was jailed for in November and continues to fight. For his part, Meek once again stood his ground in insisting that he never pointed a gun at an arresting cop in 2008, and Tacopina came in behind him to shed light on the fact that the officer in question (Reginald Graham) would later have scores of arrests expunged from record due to constitutional rights violations.

Hosts Gayle King, John Dickerson, and Norah O'Donnell then proceeded to raise the issue prosecutors had with numerous technical violations Meek succumbed to throughout his decade-long probationary period. Meek confessed to tripping up due to an opioid addiction he developed, and he put up no argument against his dirtbike violation becoming a matter of contention.

What the rapper and his lawyer contested before the viewing audience, however, was the nature of the probation that weighed his personal life down in a manner which most recognize being common for convicts from America's inner cities - but is disproportionate to punishments handed down for criminals who aren't from poor communities of color.

Meek acknowledged the privilege he's been afforded as a celebrity whose friends in high places have come to his aid. But he was sure to place the focus of injustice back on people who grew up like he did but are not afforded such chances.

"I'm just lucky to have people of power and much influence to stand behind me and speak up," he said. "I don't care about being the face. I care about saving people's lives and helping the world become a better place if I can."
