Man Fires AK-47 at Kids' Party Because They Were Being Loud

An Oregon man who shot a couple of neighbors over an argument sparked by the noise level at a kids birthday party was taken into custody following a five-hour standoff earlier this week.
The dispute that led to violence outside of a Newport apartment complex on Tuesday night (May 15) developed after Franklin L. Tomes, 59, lost his cool and confronted the father hosting the party. The two men bumped heads in the parking lot of their respective residences at around 9:15 p.m. and when it became apparent to Tomes that his counterpart and another man in his company would not back down, he went and retrieved his AK-47.
According to reports, Tomes aimed the weapon at the two 20-year-old men, before concealing it again. But he would then make good on his threat when the two men fled; brandishing it once more and firing a couple of rounds in their direction. One of the victims sustained three bullet wounds in his legs, and the other was shot in the shoulder. Thankfully, there weren't any more injured parties considering an additional seven rounds fired by Tomes wound up penetrating a nearby apartment.
The two men who were hit in the shooting were taken to a hospital in Corvallis and had been listed in stable condition. Tomes would retreat to his home, where he holed himself up until he finally surrendered to police at 2:20 a.m. He remains behind bars at Lincoln County Jail, where he was booked on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and unlawful use of a weapon.
