DeRay McKesson Sues Fox News Host over Accusation He Incited Violence

RadioOnFire.com - DeRay McKesson, a leader in the Black Lives Matter movement, is suing FOX News host Jeanine Pirro for defamation, claiming that the host commented that he directed violence towards a police officer during a protest in 2016. Mckesson claims that Pirro’s commentary has wrecked his reputation and “endangered his safety”.

During a protest over the shooting of an unarmed black man, Alton Sterling, in July 2016, Mckesson and nearly 200 other protesters were arrested, though charges against Mckesson were dismissed. Stemming from the same protest, a Baton Rouge police officer also filed a lawsuit, claiming that he was hit by a rock that a protester threw, alleging that the rock-thrower was directed by Mckesson. During a “FOX & Friends” coverage report of the protest, on September 28, Pirro stated that Mckesson incited violence, and stated, "You've got a police officer who was injured, he was injured at the direction of DeRay McKesson."

Black Lives Matter is a viral social justice movement that began in 2014, in response to police killings of unarmed black individuals. DeRay McKesson is a former school administrator and current activist who has been at the forefront of the movement, gaining a following of over 1 million on Twitter.
