RadioOnFire.com - Howard County police say they've arrested their so-called "Hamburglar,"--the woman who allegedly robbed a Columbia McDonald's by squeezing through a drive-thru window--and they didn't have to go to McDonaldland to do it.
Police have identified the suspect as Jessica Marie Cross, 27, of Springdale. She was arrested Thursday morning and will be charged with burglary and theft. As of early Thursday afternoon, she was still in the booking process at the Howard County Detention Center.
Police responded at around 5 a.m. on Nov. 5 to the restaurant in the 8300 block of Benson Drive for the reported burglary. An employee said she arrived to find cash registers shaken up and the office door opened. Investigators found a super sized $1,400 missing in all. Video surveillance captured a white Hyundai Sonata pull into the drive-thru around 1 a.m. The driver, allegedly Cross, attempted to place an order, but the business was closed.
The car pulled to the window, and Cross allegedly forced the unlocked window open, looked inside and poured herself a drink. Cross then allegedly crawled through the window and remained in the restaurant for around 35 minutes. Police say she took cash, a purse, food and Happy Meal toys. Police say she also tried to disable the surveillance system, wipe away her fingerprints and wash the cash drawers.
After distributing a video clip, police got multiple tips identifying Cross as a suspect. She turned herself in Thursday morning. Police are now determining who will share in the $500 reward in the case.
