RadioOnFire.com - While racist violence rose during white nationalist rallies in Charlottesville, Va. Marshawn Lynch decided to sit on a Gatorade cooler during the national anthem. Lynch is the star running back for the Raiders after he retired for one year from the Seahawks and the only one to sit in protest during Saturday's preseason game between the Raiders and Cardinals.
Unlike the harsh uprising against Kaepernick who is not signed to a team partly because of his silent protest against racism and police brutality in kneeling during the anthem, many NFL fans have remained mum about the rallies in VA. While Lynch was not available for comment, coach Del Rio said he was not made aware that Lynch would sit during the patriotic theme song.
Del Rio also said he didn't think Lynch's decision would become a distraction and said the two spoke about the incident after. "I talked to Marshawn to make sure we're on the same page and he said, 'Thjs is something I've done for 11 years. It's not a form of anything other than me being myself'," declared Del Rio. The coach responded to Lynch by saying, "Just so you understand how I feel. I very strongly believe in standing for the national anthem, but I'm going to respect you as a man, you do your thing and we'll do ours."
