RadioOnFire.com - Margaret Hall, 66, was killed instantly around 11:15 p.m. Thursday when Ryan Hazel plowed into her car while trying to get away from police in the 200 block of South Mount Street, police said.
"I heard this loud car and huge crash," said Dwayne Hess, a witness.
"She never had a chance," Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said. "Ms. Hall died of her injuries from the crash right there on the scene."
Davis said that after the crash, Hazel, a gang member who had been sentenced to three years in prison two years ago, tried to run away on foot.
Davis said officers arrested Hazel at the scene and that drugs, a 9-mm Glock semi-automatic handgun and a drum magazine were found in his car.
"This is a weapon of death, and this is a weapon that's on the streets of our city, and again, this firearm was possessed by someone who should have been in jail, but he wasn't in jail because two years and six months of his three-year sentence was suspended," Davis said. "It's one of those 'Here we go again' moments that shouldn't be happening in our city."
