RadioOnFire.com - This past March, an eight-year-old girl in Florida named Ki’ari Pope was challenged by her cousin to drink boiling water through a straw. Now, months later, the young girl has passed away due to injuries she sustained from the dare.
According to the Palm Beach Post, the little girl told her mother’s boyfriend that she was having trouble breathing as a result of her injuries from performing the dare, then she became unresponsive. From there, she was taken to the hospital where the young girl was ultimately pronounced dead. Before she passed away, doctors attempted to perform a tracheotomy, which puts a tiny opening in the windpipe, to help her breathe. However, the procedure resulted in “chronic respiratory problems” according to the Department of Children and Families.
Because of the death of the young girl, all interactions that the family has had with child welfare services are being reviewed, and a child death investigation has been opened to “examine the circumstances surrounding her death.”
