RadioOnFire.com - An explosion went off in Elizabeth, New Jersey early Monday morning [September 19], as the robot sent in to disable it accidentally set it off.
A bomb squad had been sent to the scene, after authorities were alerted to pipe and wiring erecting from a backpack that had been placed in a trash can between a local train station and a pub. Following a weekend in which explosions took place along the route of a 5K Marine Corp charity race in Seaside Park, and a bomb injured 29 in Chelsea, Manhattan, the backpack was investigated and discovered indeed to contain up to five explosive devices.
As the bomb squad continues its work to scour the area for any additional explosives, officials continue to search for Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, who has been named a suspect in the bombings. Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage said authorities are looking into whether the New Jersey town was a target or a decoy to elude investigators.
