K.C. Chiefs Link for National Anthem While Marcus Peters Raising Fist

RadioOnFire.com - The Kansas City Chiefs might have taken some inspiration from the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, September 11; selecting to interlock arms during the playing of the National Anthem before their season opener against the San Diego Chargers. The Seahawks disclosed their plans to lock arms on Saturday, and all eyes will be on Jeremy Lane, who sat during the anthem preceding the final pre-season game, to see whether he joins the team, or chooses to continue sitting. The Chiefs team had their own anomaly during their unified action, with cornerback Marcus Peters raising his fist as the Star-Spangled Banner played.
As recent as Friday, Peters hinted that he might go rogue during the anthem, saying, "I salute Colin for what he's doing for a great cause. I'm 100 percent behind him. What's going on in law enforcement, it does need to change and it does need to change for ... everybody, not just us as black Americans." He would go on to cite the Charleston massacre in highlighting the plight of Black Americans, before pointing out how Colin Kaepernick has been treated since standing up against injustice. "I salute him," Peters said, before declaring: "I'm going to back him up."
The Chiefs organization provided a statement elaborating on their stance, stating: "After having a number of thoughtful discussions as a group regarding our representation during the National Anthem, we decided collectively to lock arms as a sign of solidarity ... It was our goal to be unified as a team and to be respectful of everyone's opinions, and the remembrance of 9/11."
