RadioOnFire.com - Colin Kaepernick elaborated on actions he plans to take off the field, following San Francisco's final pre-season game in San Diego on Thursday, September 1. In a post game interview the 49'ers quarterback pledged not only his time, but his money to the communities he is protesting on the behalf of, capping a week in which he's been marred by controversy, by announcing a $1 million donation.
"I am planning to take it a step further. I'm currently working with organizations, to be involved. And making sure that I'm actively in these communities, as well as donating the first million dollars I make this year to different organizations to help these communities, and help these people," he told reporters. "I have to help these people. I have to help these communities. It's not right that they're not put in a position to succeed or given those opportunities to succeed."
Hours earlier, Kaepernick took the field to the sound of boos before refusing to stand for a second consecutive week. This time though, he knelt, as opposed to sitting. Kaepernick had reportedly had a lengthy pre-game talk with veteran of the U.S. Army Green Beret, and NFL long snapper, Nate Boyer, on how best to get his message across as a call to address the oppression of communities of color, without dishonoring the military. The result was a compromise that Kaepernick would take a knee. He was joined by teammate Eric Reid.
