RadioOnFire.com - According to reports, New Jersey passed a law that now requires public schools to teach LGBT history. Governor Phil Murphy signed the bill this past Thursday (January 31).
The Board of Education in New Jersey reportedly must incorporate a new curriculum that shows “the political, economic, and social contributions of persons with disabilities and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, where appropriate.”
Along with that, the law states that schools are required to teach about historical contributions of people with disabilities. Governor Murphy’s office issued a statement saying “The Governor believes that ensuring students learn about diverse histories will help build more tolerant communities and strengthen educational outcomes”
The material will reportedly be in the curriculum for social studies class in middle and high schools start in the 2020-2021 school year.
