Orioles Make It Official, Name Brandon Hyde New Manager

After denying initial reports, the Baltimore Orioles have announced Brandon Hyde will succeed Buck Showalter as the team's new manager.
Hyde, who most recently served as the Chicago Cubs bench coach, has spent 16 years as a coach, following four as a player. He will be introduced to the Baltimore media on Monday at Camden Yards.
“After conducting an intensive search, I believe that we have found the ideal leader for the next era of Orioles baseball,” Mike Elias, the team's executive vice president and general manager, said in a statement. “Brandon’s deep background in player development and Major League coaching, most recently helping to shape the Cubs into a World Champion, has thoroughly prepared him for this job and distinguished him throughout our interview process. I look forward to introducing him to our fans next week and to working together with him to build the next great Orioles team.”

As the winter meetings closed in Las Vegas, the Orioles were the only team left without a manager in place. The Orioles moved on from Showalter and general manager Dan Duquette when their contracts expired in October.
A Santa Rosa, California native, the 45-year-old Hyde signed with the Chicago White Sox as a player in 1997, never reaching the majors. He got his start as a coach in the Miami Marlins system. He became the hitting coach at Class-A Greensboro in 2003, and was promoted to manager there in 2005, rising through the ranks to manage at all three levels. Hyde worked in various roles for the Cubs going back to 2011, including director of player development and minor league field coordinator. The Cubs went to the playoffs four times during his tenure, a stretch that included the franchise's first World Series championship in 108 years.
