Police Investigate Infant Girl's Death As Homicide

RadioOnFire.com - Baltimore police are investigating one of their latest homicides: a 5-month-old girl.

City police said detectives were called at 3 p.m. Thursday to a hospital for a report of an injured baby who had signs of trauma to her body.

Police said the girl, Brailynn Ford, died Sunday and the medical examiner ruled the cause of death as a homicide.

Brailynn's grandparents said she was a happy baby and brought them more joy than they can measure in the five months she lived.

"She looked like she wasn't going to come home," said her grandfather Damon Wilson Sr.

A cast of the 5-month-old's handprint and footprint, taken after she died, now sits on a table at her grandparents' home, which they said is full of memories.

"When I walk past her slipper in the hallway or I run into her sleeper in the laundry," her grandmother Hazel Wilson said.

"On Monday, when we have to return back to work, we have to come back home to an empty house because our baby is gone," Hazel Wilson said.

Brailynn's grandparents declined to say who was caring for her when she was hurt due to the ongoing police investigation.

"I need them to find out what happened to my baby, how the injuries occurred, who is the person that did it," Hazel Wilson said.

"When you do catch the person for this, make sure they never see the streets again," Damon Wilson said.

As the family makes funeral arrangements for the infant, they said they're holding on to joy she brought them during her short life.

"I called her my chicken nugget because she was so thick, and when I say 'chicken nugget,' she would just smile and put her little tongue out," Damon Wilson said.

The grandparents wish they had had time to make more memories.

"I just was looking forward to just all of her firsts: ear piercing, her birthdays and Halloween, everything. We were just looking forward to everything," Hazel Wilson said.
