RadioOnFire.com - A west Baltimore community converged Sunday to rally for a young girl critically injured in a shooting last week.
Neighbors and friends in gathered for a vigil for 7-year-old Taylor Hayes, who was critically wounded Thursday while sitting in a car during what police are calling a shootout.
People who gathered told 11 News that they want to support Taylor's family as the little girl continues to fight for her life. They also said the violence is unacceptable, and they want to take a stand.
"It's important that we show people that we're not afraid, that communities here want to continue life, but also hopefully that people come forward and say what happened and say what they saw so that we can hold folks accountable," Baltimore City Councilman Kristefer Burnett said.
Baltimore police last gave an update on Taylor's progress Saturday night, saying she remains in critical and unstable condition.
At that time, investigators also released video to seek the public's help in an effort to identify the driver of a car. It's not clear how the car or driver are connected to the case. Anyone who recognizes it is asked to call police.
Taylor was riding in a car on Lyndhurst Street when she was shot. According to police, 33-year-old Darnell Holmes was driving the Honda, and one of the guns used during the shootout was found in that vehicle.
Police have not said whether Holmes was targeted or if she fired the gun. Holmes is charged with weapons and drug violations.
Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-7-LOCKUP.
