Haiti Prime Minister Resigns After Violent & Deadly Fuel Price Protests

Dr. Jack Guy Lafontant, Hati's most recent Prime Minister, has resigned. His resignation follows riots over the country's fuel prices. Earlier this month (July 6), the government announced that gas prices would increase by 38 percent. Moreover, 47 percent for diesel and 51 percent for kerosene.

According to BBC, Lafontant has been accused of misleading fuel reforms. The proposal to raise prices resulted in violent (even deadly) protests. Demonstrators have marched through the nation's capital Port-au-Prince --terrorizing the streets, shops and local businesses.
The government responded by suspending the reforms.
