Rihanna Hits 2 Billion Streams on Apple Music

RadioOnFire.com - Fresh off the heels of International Women's Day, Rihanna became the first female artist to reach two billion streams worldwide on Apple Music. She hasn't released any solo projects since Anti in 2016 but has collaborated with N.E.R.D., DJ Khaled, and Kendrick Lamar within the last year.

On Thursday, Apple Music unveiled the top 20 women in streaming. Rihanna naturally topped the list, followed by Taylor Swift and Beyoncé respectively. Interestingly enough, all three artists all excluded their music from Apple at one point in time.

The top 10 rounds out with Ariana Grande, Adele, Sia, Lana Del Rey, Selena Gomez, SZA, and Lady Gaga. Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Halsey, Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, Pink, Kehlani, Mariah Carey, Little Mix, and Miley Cyrus also appear on the list.

Apple Music also launched three playlists in celebration of International Women's Day, titled Essential Feminism, Who Runs the World, and Bold Women. The playlists showcase works by influential female artists from the past and present.

To further commemorate women's' accomplishments in the music industry, Beats 1’s Julie Adenuga is hosting four weekly live shows about gender, sexuality, and music which started Thursday and will air every Thursday throughout March on Beats 1.
