Poly Students Announce 'Sibling March' To DC Gun Control Rally

RadioOnFire.com - As students march on Washington later this month to demand gun legislation, students in Baltimore plan what they're calling a "sibling march" in the March for Our Lives movement.

Three Baltimore Polytechnic Institute students are organizing the march, which will begin at noon Saturday, March 24 at War Memorial Plaza, right in front of City Hall. The students are soliciting donations to fund the event.

"School safety is not about politics,” student Anna Hilger, who recently formed Poly's Student Activist Association. “Too many of us are afraid and not just at Poly, but at schools across the country."

Mayor Catherine Pugh last week announced she will organize 60 free buses to take students to the main rally in Washington. The Baltimore Sun reported last week that it's not clear whether public money would be used to fund that $100,000 effort or, if so, how much.

March for Our Lives is a nationwide demonstration sparked by Parkland, Florida, school shooting that killed 17 people last month. The application to the National Park Service for the rally in Washington says more than 500,000 attendees are expected.
