Baltimore Metro To Open 3 Days Ahead Of Schedule

RadioOnFire.com - After replacing necessary rails on the Metro SubwayLink system, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will reopen at 5 a.m. on Friday, three days ahead of schedule.
“Safety will always be our first priority,” MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn said in a news release Thursday. “The decision to reopen the Metro SubwayLink system came after a thorough inspection of our tracks to ensure their safety and reliability. We are pleased to restore service to our riders earlier than originally planned and appreciate their patience during this time.”

Unexpected wear that could have caused derailment was previously found on 11 sections of the track.
Inspections of rail work by the Federal Transit Administration and State Safety Oversight inspectors allowed for the reopening. The inspections were completed by geometry car testing, an automated testing vehicle.
The subway was shut down Feb. 11.
The MDOT MTA is still set to complete additional rail work in the summer.
