Police: Armed Student Arrested At Loch Raven High School

RadioOnFire.com - Loch Raven High School was put on lockdown Thursday after police received a report of an armed person.

Around 45 minutes after a student showed another student a gun in a backpack, the boy was apprehended, with the weapon still in the backpack, police say. The school resource officer approached the boy, who then fled into another area of the school and out of the officer's sight, at which point the school went into a lockdown, police say.

At least 30 Baltimore County police officers descended on the scene, where they were joined by a police tactical team and an aviation unit. Authorities went in knowing the student's identity and found him in a third-floor classroom, where was apprehended by tactical officers, who recovered a realistic-looking pellet gun.

The suspect, 14, is in custody pending charges.

The student's identity is not yet known. There are no reported injuries.

Cowpens Lane is blocked in both directions at the scene. The incident also prompted a lockdown at nearby Concordia Prep.

Police have set up a staging area for parents at 1125 Cromwell Bridge Road, outside The Big Screen Store.

The incident comes a day after 17 people were killed in a massacre at a south Florida high school.
