Off-Duty Prince George's Co. Officer Shot, Killed While Helping Neighbor In Domestic Dispute

RadioOnFire.com - A Prince George's County officer was hailed as a hero Wednesday after answering a neighbor's call for help in a domestic dispute that ended with him laying down his life.

The shooting happened in the area of Chadds Ford Drive and Chadsey Lane. Police say Cpl. Mujahid A. Ramzziddin was shot and killed while attempting to protect a neighbor at her request. He was home on his day off when she pleaded for his help at 10:18 a.m. Wednesday.

"He immediately responded to that plea for help and shortly thereafter found himself in a confrontation with a man armed with a shotgun," Chief Hank Stawinski said. "He lived a consequential life and he suffered a consequential death, but he saved her life by sacrificing his own."

Stawinski provided further details at a press conference Wednesday evening. The neighbor knew Ramzziddin was a police officer and that he parked his patrol car outside his house. She was the estranged wife of 37-year-old Glenn Tyndell, She, as well as Tyndell's ex-wife, had both tried to take out protective orders against Tyndell in the past.

Tyndell was at the property that morning to collect his belongings. Ramzziddin proactively approached the woman, and opted to go inside and talk to Tyndell. Ramzziddin, who had his service weapon on him and a police radio, went outside. He radioed for assistance in what was his last transmission.

Tyndell shortly followed and fired three fatal shots from 30 yards away, killing Ramzzidin. After a pause, he fired two more shots. Police saw the shooting on home security video. Those were the only shots fired at the home.

The neighbor was unhurt.

Tyndell, of the 11000 block of Drumsheugh Court in Largo, got in an SUV and, upon crossing the county line, was pursued by Charles County deputies. The chase went back into Prince George's County and ended 10 miles away from the shooting scene in Fort Washington, where the suspect was confronted by two officers and fatally shot.
