The boy's mother, Robin McKenzie was arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse after admitting to authorities that she had whipped her son with an extension cord and choked him as a form of discipline. McKenzie told police the boy, who suffered from mental health issues, ran into the kitchen to obtain a knife and stabbed himself in the chest.
The story apparently hit home for Memphis native Yo Gotti, who XXL reports will be covering the costs of the funeral. He considers this gesture a way of giving back to his community after a troubling situation like this.
Robin McKenzie remains in police custody on $100K bond and more charges could be presented upon further investigation.
