RadioOnFire.com - Along with the filing of 14 charges against a Milwaukee man who abducted his daughter, on Wednesday (Nov. 1) authorities in Indiana released recordings that captured their efforts to save the 2-year-old after a multi-state pursuit of the suspect came to a crashing end.
Kenneth Brown, 30, of South Milwaukee, reportedly revealed to a stranger that he had stolen the van he was in after taking the girl from her mother.
Reports show that the child had indeed been kidnapped on Oct. 17. From Milwaukee, Brown crossed over into Illinois and then headed east into Indiana. Before he could get any further than Newton County, deputies were tailing Brown on Interstate 65. He ultimately wound up colliding with three of the squad cars in Tippecanoe County, and the chase came to an end.
In body camera footage of the standoff that followed, deputies are heard pleading for Brown to spare the girl, as he held a knife to her throat. He is also cited as having used her as a human shield, by holding her head in place in front of his in an attempt to deter them from shooting. Eventually, Brown would slit his own throat, but not before finally handing his daughter over. He would be transported to a local hospital for treatment and then released to Tippecanoe County Jail on October 26.
Brown faces kidnapping charges, along with an assortment of charges for battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness, criminal confinement, intimidation, neglect of a dependent, resisting law enforcement, criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident.
