Chicago PD to Punish Officers Who Knelt with Activist

RadioOnFire.com - A couple of Chicago officers are being disciplined by the higher-ups of the city's police department after they took a knee to pose together with a local activist, in a social media post that has gone viral.

The two unnamed officers were reportedly encouraged to express their solidarity with the growing protests against police brutality when activist Aleta Clark walked into their precinct and posed the photo-op idea. “That Moment when you walk into the police station and ask the Men of Color are they Against Police Brutality and Racism & they say Yes... then you ask them if they support Colin Kaepernick... and they also say yes... then you ask them to Kneel." Clark wrote in the caption of the photo, which she posted to Instagram on Sunday, September 24.

According to the Chicago Tribune, a department spokesperson confirmed that they had violated policy and would be reprimanded accordingly. “We will address it in the same way we have handled previous incidents in which officers have made political statements while in uniform,” a spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department explained.

National Anthem protests exploded over the weekend as a great wave of dissent manifested in the face of criticism over President Trump's recent chastisement of Kaepernick and NFL players who've demonstrated in solidarity with him. While his inflammatory reference to anyone who kneels as a "son of a b***h" galvanized those who back his right to protest, it did the same for those who are against protest gestures being made during the playing of the anthem. The remarks have led to many taking up the free speech cause, and many others vowing to boycott the NFL until it weeds out the politicization of the game.
