The International Association of Black Athletes (IABA) is a will be hosting a Triathlon/Duathlon Event on June 25th in support of their youth athletic program that helps to combat childhood obesity. The nonprofit organization works within the Baltimore region to promote multi-disciplinary sports such as triathlons, as well as, introduce childhood wellness and youth sports programs. The multi-disciplinary race was designed to get people started in the sport and raise awareness about these types of youth athletic activities in the Baltimore area.

Organizers want to get the word out about the event and their youth programs. They believe that by starting small with small distance events children will begin to not only learn the value of exercise, but hopefully become attracted to multi-disciplinary sports.

“We believe strongly that strong bodies help to build strong minds,” says organizer Dr. Tekemia Dorsey. “Our event not only helps support our programs but is also a fun time for kids. Childhood obesity can lead to adult obesity and other chronic health issues. We don’t want that for these children. We are offering them a chance to build strong bodies and adopt practices that will help them lifelong.”
