RadioOnFire.com - A Florida man confesses to murdering his wife and burying her remains in their backyard, in a suicide note, later found by authorities. On Tuesday night, Volusia County deputies responded to a report of 76- year-old Laurence Caulfield's suicide note discovered in a package delivered to relatives. The note attached expresses how Caulfield struggled to cope with his wife's Alzheimer's disease diagnosis. The package also included the will and life insurance documents of the couple, as well as other personal documents.
Officials arrived at the Caulfield's home in Deltona and spoke with Mr. Caulfield regarding Mrs. Caulfield's whereabouts. Except, Mr. Caulfield claimed to have sent his wife to Kansas City to stay with friends of the family. Officials followed up by asking the best way to contact Mrs. Caulfield, and Mr. Caulfield suggested reaching out to his daughter in New Jersey. Once officials were in touch with the girl, she reassured them that she was unaware of her mother relocating to Kansas. She asked her father about her mother's location, and he responded that his wife was asleep in the house.
Deputies became concerned as Caulfield stalled in his home and raised suspicion. Suddenly deputies heard shots fired toward the back of the house. However, by the time they arrived in the Caulfield's backyard, Mr. Caulfield was found on the ground with a gunshot wound and weapon by his side.
Officials found Mr. Caulfield's handwritten suicide note at the scene of the crime; him admitting to killing his wife and burying her remains in their backyard. Caulfield was taken to the nearest hospital where he was then pronounced dead. Detectives say they have commenced their search for Mrs. Caulfield's remains in the backyard.
