RadioOnFire.com - The Rhode Island car dealer who caused a stir this week, when it was learned that he had started up an auction for bidding on the car Aaron Hernandez was alleged to have used to carry out a double homicide in 2012, was disappointed to learn that eBay has taken the listing down.
Despite Hernandez having been acquitted of the Daniel Jorge Correia / Teixeira Furtado shooting, his mystifying popularity became apparent through the amount of interest shown in the 2006 Toyota 4Runner. With 100 bids translating to a top offer of $101,005 by Wednesday, one can only imagine what the SUV would have pulled in had the auction extended to its original final day on Sunday.
The SUV is owned by Rhode Island car dealer Jack Fox, who leased it to Hernandez as part of a promotional agreement during the tight end’s days with New England. Buddy Clair, who is managing the sale for Fox, told the Boston Globe that eBay did not say why the listing was taken down.
Dealer Jack Fox had been explicit about the significance of the car in the auction's description, but he did stretch it a bit, calling the ride a "piece of Patriots football memorabilia," yet favorably citing some of the features it has preserved from the crime scene. "This is the 4-runner Boston Police had been searching for in connection with a shooting outside a Boston nightclub," it read. "The vehicle was found in Hernandez's uncle's garage in Bristol, Rhode Island, and brought to Boston Police Departments impound yard, where it has been until last week. The Toyota is just the way it came from the impound yard, and still has the black soot on the map lights, and sunroof switch where police dusted for finger prints!!"
